Kenneth Lezada

1. Where are you originally from?

Hello! My name is Kenneth! I’m originally from the Philippines and moved to Canada in 2014.

2. Which company do you fly with, your base, and for how long?

I’m currently flying with Flair Airlines. I’m YYZ base, have been working with them since Feb 2022, and upgraded to Inflight Director in May.

3. Who or what inspired you initially to become a Flight Attendant?

Since I was a kid I have always been fascinated by airplanes and airports. I remember when I was a kid, I would always go outside the house and look up to the sky when I heard an airplane when I woke up in the morning. I would feel extremely excited when I would travel anywhere as a kid.

I also remember when I flew with Cebu Pacific (Philippine’s Low-Cost Carrier) when I was a kid. One of their Flight Attendants (who I remember smelled awesome lol) helped me and my family during boarding and we started talking about being a Flight Attendant. It was at that moment I wanted only 1 thing more than ANYTHING in the world… to be a Flight Attendant.

4. What was one of your most unique experiences so far? Example, a flight, a layover, a country, time off travel with your benefits?

Honestly, I’d say when I met Annika (9y/o pax) and her parents at the YEG check-in counter back in August when I volunteered before checking in for my flight to Vegas. I posted this on my IG btw! :) It was Annika’s first flight since she was a baby and her parents told me that she was really nervous. That moment, I remember when I first flew when I was a kid. I was nervous too. So I told my crew that this is her first flight and decided to choose Flair Airlines to go to Las Vegas for the first time as well. We made sure that her first flight is memorable and gave her a pizza and I wrote a message on the box. She was really happy because she even got to visit the flight deck and talked to our pilots when we landed in Vegas. I also tried to inspire her to become a Flight Attendant one day.

6. What has surprised you about this industry that you were not previously aware of?

I’d say that I wasn’t aware that more than 80% of the population is afraid of flying. I’ve also seen a lot of passengers knock on the plane before they go in. I have personally never seen, done, or heard it before before becoming a Flight Attendant. Apparently, touching the outside plane before going in offers a bit of good luck, like passengers are thanking the plane for its services and asking it to get them to their destination safely which was very interesting when I learned that.

7. What is it about your current company and position that works well for you? Example day turns, multi day pairings, rotational work, domestic airlines, international airlines, etc.

Day turns. Although, there are some days that I wish we have layovers but I actually kind of like the fact that we get to go home at the end of our flights. It’s always better to sleep in your own bed. And I think layover will cost me more cause I always want to buy stuff when I go to a different city/country.

8. What tips or tricks you have learned to help you with your lifestyle?

Get as much sleep as you can on your days off! Having a few hours of sleep when you’re working is going to kill you over time. Also, drink some vitamins and lots of water.

9. Tell us something about you, what kind of travel you love or what makes your ideal day off!

I love backpacking and going to a sunny destination when I have a few days off in a row or just sleeping all day when I’m off.
