Flair Airlines is currently seeking a permanent, full-time Director, Inflight to join our growing and ever-changing organization. The Director, Inflight is responsible for the overall direction of the Inflight Department including on-board service standards, administration of the Flight Attendant’s collective bargaining agreement, Inflight training, and general oversight and responsibility of the Inflight team members, the Inflight budget, and departmental policies and procedures. 

  

Flair Airlines is accepting applications from qualified candidates from across Canada. The Director, Inflight will be required to travel regularly to support the inflight team and other related initiatives and activities. 

 

Primary Job Functions:

The Director, Inflight is responsible for the professional standards of the cabin crews under their authority and in particular: 

  • Leads and is ultimately responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Inflight team’s performance and Inflight service product
  • Promotes and fosters a safe and secure operating environment
  • Oversight ensuring a current and approved Flight Attendant Manual (FAM) is in place 
  • Serves as Operations representative for labor relations and administration of the collective bargaining agreement for the Flight Attendants
  • Determines proper Flight Attendant staffing requirements and ensure they are properly trained and available to meet the operational needs of the Company including development of a Service Training program
  • Responsible for ensuring departmental policies and procedures are kept current and effectively communicated to the Inflight team
  • Adherence to all Company policies and procedures 
  • Responsible to ensure department adopts best practices designed to achieve performance, safety and on-board service goals
  • Works closely with Commercial Department to ensure a seamless product for all aspects of customer experience
  • Works with the Finance team to develop and adhere to the annual approved Inflight department’s budget
  • Works with Human Resources to effectively manage significant people issues as necessary
  • Assumes any responsibilities delegated by the VP Business Transformation and Flight Operations
  • In their absence, all responsibilities for duties shall be delegated to another qualified individual, except that the knowledge requirements detailed under flight attendant manager qualifications may be demonstrated to the air operator rather than the Minister

 

Additional Job Functions:

  • Maintain a close liaison with the VP Business Transformation and Flight Operations on operational matters that pertain to Flight Safety 
  • Liaise with the Chief Pilot on crew and operational matters that pertain to Flight Safety and training
  • The issuance of directives and notices to the flight attendants as required
  • Oversee the maintenance of flight attendant training records
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of safety features cards
  • Oversee the development and delivery of regulatory training requirements
  • Participate in new business ventures as they relate to FA requirements
  • Refine and oversee the interview and selection processes for hiring Flight Attendants
  • Provide support and guidance to the Crew Scheduling Department
  • Encourage the use of the SMS program to enhance Flight Safety


Safety Duties, Accountabilities, Authorities, and Responsibilities

  • Support the SMS program through participation and reporting
  • Involved in reactive and proactive risk assessments
  • Initiate the creation and implementation of corrective action plans as a result of Event/Hazard Reports, Preventative/Corrective Action Requests (PCAR) or audit findings
  • Encourage active participation in the SMS by all FAL personnel


Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of relevant work experience with at least five (5) years in progressive leadership roles
  • A University degree in Business Administration, Aviation Management, or an equivalent field
  • A minimum of three (3) years experience as a Flight Attendant and ideally as an instructor
  • Knowledge with respect to the content of the Company Operations Manual, Training Manuals, Standard Operating Procedures, and the provisions of Canadian Aviation Regulations and Standards necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position; 
  • Demonstrate to the Minister the ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position
  • A second language, preferably French or Spanish, would be an asset
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (word, excel, outlook, etc.)
  • Familiarity with industry-specific computer programs

 

Required Competencies:

The ability to motivate and inspire one of the most important employee groups: The Director, Inflight will support the SMS by motivating their employees to report safety issues.

Verbal and written communications: The Director, Inflight must ensure that official amendments to the Flight Attendant Manual (FAM) are completed in a professional manner before submission to Transport Canada.

Problem Solving:  The Director, Inflight will provide input from the cabin crew perspective when problems arise from an operational irregularity, and help the operations team determine the best course of action to mitigate the problem.

Decision Making:  The Director, Inflight will be required to make (sometimes on the spot) decisions and encourage open feedback from the FA group and other departments in the formulation of policy making.

The ability to teach: The Director, Inflight will need to demonstrate patience, the ability to mentor flight crew managers and supervisors and understand how individual learning styles differ, and adjust their training approach as required.
